Abstract
As a developing nation Kenya faces significant challenges in achieving sustainable development while maintaining low GHG emissions. The CLEWS nexus provides a holistic framework to address these challenges by considering the interdependencies and trade-offs among climate, land, energy, and water systems. Policymakers may promote sustainable development and carbon neutrality by creating coordinated plans to exploit synergies and reduce conflicts by being aware of the complex relationships between these sectors. In this Study we consider three scenarios that can be used to strategize on the minimization of carbon emissions. The three scenarios are; The BAU scenario which was created with basic current data on energy, land and water and shows what to expect with little to no change in current policies and national strategies. The second scenario is the Climate Mitigation scenario which focuses on the minimization of use of Agricultural diesel since it's one of the main sources of Co2 emissions in the Agricultural sector. The third scenario is the Adaptation & resilience scenario which focuses on transforming biomass fuel powerplants into renewable energy powerplants. By implementing those two scenarios the country may be able to hugely cut down on GHG emissions and achieve part of its NDC as well as Net-zero targets.
